The game was a defensive showdown, and all of the first half scoring came from the wrong side of the ball.
A Rams defender took one back for six in the first quarter, and Bucs defensive back Ryan Maguire matched him in the second, with a 70-yard pick of his own.
The two extra points made the score 7-7 at the half.
“We played great defense tonight,” coach Mike Farley said. “We held them offensively. They only had 180 yards total. We held them to 98 yards rushing and 82 yards passing. I couldn’t be prouder of our team defensively.”
But on the other side of the ball the Bucs struggled. They were held to 72 yards rushing on 36 attempts, and were 3 for 21 passing for 30 yards.
The offensive struggles and field position were what Farley said made the difference.
“Their (second half) field goal and their touchdown came on a short field,” Farley said. “They had a nice punt return that set them up for a touchdown.
“Offensively, once we put together some first downs we just stalled. I’m proud of our kids (though). Our kids played hard for four quarters, and our community can be really proud of them because they played their butts off.”
