It is the day of the Michigan-Michigan State game, and as always the state is divided — albeit unevenly in favor of the Wolverines.
I could give you an in-depth analysis about who will win based soley upon the football-playing merits of both squads — but it’s a rivalry game!
Instead, I will join my fellow citizens of the purest state in using an emotionally charged analysis to make my prediction.
Michigan State will win because the majority of its fans have a legitimate tie to the school; whether it be a close proximity, family ties or even — gasp — an actual degree.
Being that I have the latter two, I will now refer to Michigan State as we.
We will win because Dantonio has your number
Coach D is 4-2 in his tenure against the hated Wolverines. The two losses came in his first and most recent season — which was a down year for the program. Both losses were by less than a touchdown. Dantonio’s serious face and rare Grinch-like grins have magical powers.
We will win because we care more
Lets face it, we’re your No. 2 rival and it only makes us hate you more.
Your biggest regular season game is always going to be Ohio State, although I think privately you’d admit that you’d rather lose to them than us most seasons.
We have a clock that counts down to this contest year-round.
Playing on the road you will have to deal with a very hostile environment. I have done things in Ann Arbor that would have gotten me covered in food, cussed out or maybe even knocked out if I had been a Wolverine doing the same in East Lansing.
We will win because you’re a dinosaur
Brady Hoke is not Bo Schembechler, and no coach ever will be. Get over it! Do you think it bugs Alabama fans that Nick Saban isn’t an
“Alabama Man,” or Ohio State fans that Urban Meyer doesn’t run a pro-style offense? Heck, a lot of pro teams don’t use a pro-set as their base these days.
Speaking of Ohio State and the Urbinator … It is over. While the economic collapse of the industrial Midwest has lowered the population in both Michigan and Ohio, the Buckeye State is still easily the strongest in the Big Ten recruiting territory.
With Meyer at the helm I don’t see a B1G team challenging them for conference supremacy anytime soon.
While I expected you to be better this year — it doesn’t look promising — you and my fellow media members can’t make the program on par with OSU simply by wishing it.
While you have been re-living yesteryear — like a Homecoming king who hates life after high school — we have been re-tooling.
We have taken players from Michigan and Ohio that have been over-looked by you and Ohio State, and we have developed them to destroy you.
They care more than anyone.
We will win because of our defense
You remember how I said that you can’t wish a full-blown Michigan revival into existence? The same thing goes for a Devin Gardner Heisman candidacy.
The quarterback has already thrown 10 interceptions, and that’s before facing our No. 1 ranked defense.
We are also in the top three in pass efficiency defense, scoring defense and passing defense, so look for that interception total to go up today.
Your running back Fitz Toussaint revived Mike Hart’s infamous “Little Brother” comments this week.
Our No. 1 rushing defense should take care of that.
We will win because maize is not a real color
No explanation is necessary. Go green!
