The Grand Haven volleyball team played a little better in each game of district play on Wednesday night, defeating rival Mona Shores 3-0.
Grand Haven advances to face Kenowa Hills at 7 p.m. tonight for the district championship.
“We came out tight,” coach Aaron Smaka said. “We didn’t take care of the first contact very well in the first couple games. Mona Shores just did a good job of tipping a lot and keeping us off balanced.
“We finally adjusted in that third game and played very well. It was a good adjustment, it just took us a little longer to get where we wanted to be.”
Game 1 was a back-and-forth affair, with nine ties and three lead changes.
The Buccaneers held on for a 25-22 win.
Game 2 was also close, but Grand Haven never trailed, going on to a 25-21 victory.
Grand Haven jumped out to an 8-1 lead in Game 3, cruising to a 25-16 finish.
