Spring Lake freshman Meghan Peel finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke at Saturday’s Division 3 state meet, held at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Peel swam a finals time of 1 minute, 1.47 seconds — the fastest time among the eight swimmers that qualified for the consolation finals.

Her time was faster than her prelim time of 1:01.79.

Flint Powers Catholic’s Hannah Kopydlowski won the state title with a time of 57.08 seconds.

The Lakers’ other swimmer to reach Saturday’s consolation finals was freshman Jennifer Meulenbelt. Her day ended in disappointment as she was disqualified during her swim in the 100 breaststroke

The headline "Lakers' freshman swims 1:47.7 in 100 backstroke finals" is WRONG. It should read 1:01.47, if the time in the article is correct. Nice work by a freshman! C'mon Trib, I'm sure these kids will clip and save these articles as we did when we were kids (or the digital equivalent today), at least get the headline and time correct.

Thank you Trib staff for the correction.
