Another Traverse City team, another easy Grand Haven victory.
After defeating Traverse City West on Thursday night, Grand Haven took care of Traverse City Central on Friday, 44-19.
“It’s really big for us,” said guard Mallory Beswick of the season-opening wins. “We kind of have a whole new team this year, so coming out on the right foot is huge for us — especially going into next week. We have two tougher games, so having two wins kind of settles our nerves a bit, allows us to have a confident mind going into next week.”
Once again, the Buccaneers’ victory was marked by a quick start and their stifling zone defense.
The two squads traded turnovers at the beginning of the contest, before Taylor Craymer hit a 3-pointer on the Bucs’ second possession.
The Grand Haven student section went nuts, and Craymer hit from beyond the arc again moments later, putting Grand Haven up 6-0.
Beswick hit a 3 on the next possession, making it three triples in a row for the Bucs.
In the midst of, and after that hot shooting streak, Grand Haven’s 2-3 zone caused havoc on the other end.
It seemed as if every Trojan entry pass was either captured by a Bucs defender or lost to the sidelines.
