The Fruitport boys basketball team defeated Ravenna on Tuesday night, 55-46.

Fruitport jumped out to a 25-19 first-quarter lead. After being on pace for an NBA-type score, neither team scored a point in the second quarter.

The Trojans outscored the Bulldogs once again in the third, 15-10. It was enough of a cushion for Fruitport to hold on for the game’s final score.

Matt Umstead and Travis Grimm lead the Trojans with 12 points apiece. Zack Garber also reached double figures with 10.

The trio also controlled the boards. Umstead and Garber hauled in nine rebounds, while Grimm added seven.

Lead guard Shawn Knox controlled the point of attack for Fruitport, dishing out four assists and snagging six steals.

AREA GAMES CANCELLED

Hazardous driving conditions due to the winter weather system that moved through West Michigan on Tuesday led to the cancelation of several area basketball games.

Spring Lake’s boys and girls home basketball games against Godwin Heights and Allendale, respectively, were both canceled, as was Fruitport’s girls basketball home game against Godwin Heights.

In addition, Western Michigan Christian canceled its boys basketball game with Grandville Calvin Christian.
