Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team suffered a 5-4 loss to the Grandville Bulldogs on Wednesday evening.

The ‘Dawgs scored the game’s first three goals, but the Buccaneers battled back behind goals by Hayden Modaff and Wesley Guthrie, trimming the lead to 3-2 late in the third period.

Guthrie scored again early in the third, again drawing the Bucs to within a goal at 4-3, then Matt Nalley scored to make it 5-4 with 2:07 remaining in the contest. The Buccaneers were unable to score the equalizer, however, and saw their record fall to 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in league play.

Grandville held a 33-21 advantage in shots, forcing Grand Haven goalie Robert Arterburn to make 28 saves.

Jake Steggles, Steven Dara, Nalley and Joey Zelenka had assists for the Bucs.
