Fruitport’s varsity wrestling squad scored a nice win over Belding, then came up just short against perennial Division 1 powerhouse Rockford, during a quad meet hosted by the Rams on Wednesday evening.
The Trojans beat Belding, 43-33, before coming up short to Rockford, 37-28.
Against Belding, Fruitport’s Cameron Butler won via a fall at 112 pounds. Andruw Bunda scored a major decision at 119; Alex Foster pinned his opponent at 135; Tommy Martinez won with a pin at 140; and Antonio Stong pinned his opponent at 152.
Collin Butler scored a pin at 160 pounds for the Trojans, while Austin Fialek won a tight match at 171. At heavyweight, the Trojans’ Kylan Sherman pinned his opponent.
The match against Rockford began at 215 pounds, and the Rams won the opening weight class before Sherman scored a major decision at heavyweight.
The Trojans’ Dalton Pope won via a tech fall at 130 pounds, while Foster pinned his opponent at 135 pounds.
Levi Six won at 140, while Butler scored a major decision at 152. Fialkin won via a pin at 160 for the Trojans, who are now 5-1 on the season.
