A pair of local girls recently received their championship rings after helping guide the Central Michigan University women’s softball team to a Mid-American Conference title this past summer.
Spring Lake’s Evie Lorimer and Grand Haven’s Michelle Dornan were members of the Chippewas’ softball squad that finished 33-20 overall and 15-7 in league play.
Lorimer, a freshman, played in 27 games, including 13 as a starter. In 40 at-bats, Lorimer banged out nine hits, including a double, and scored six runs.
The speedster was 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
She drove in one run and drew five walks, good for a .311 on-base percentage.
Defensively, Lorimer had 34 put-outs and committed just two errors for a .946 fielding percentage from her outfield position.
Dornan, who attended Allendale High School, redshirted her freshman season.
