The action was fierce on the court Friday night at the Grand Haven Fieldhouse, but it was a big-time visitor off the court that stole the show.

Michigan State University men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo was in attendance, watching Muskegon junior Deyonta Davis. The 6-foot-9 Davis verbally committed to play basketball at MSU.

Izzo arrived at the fieldhouse a few minutes after the Buccaneers’ girls knocked off the Big Reds, and 20 minutes before the boys’ game tipped off.

He walked in quietly, but was soon spotted and swarmed by children and adults alike. The popular coach, a native of Iron Mountain in the Upper Peninsula, took time to pose for photos and say hi to the dozens of people who surrounded him before he was finally able to take his seat just in time for tip-off.
