GH icers defeat Kalamazoo

The Grand Haven hockey team defeated visiting Kalamazoo on Friday night, 4-1, snapping a 12-game losing streak.

Grand Haven got off to a hot start against Kalamazoo. Adam Carlisle found the back of the net twice within a minute span during the first period, giving the Buccaneers a 2-0 lead. Zack Thomas and Wesley Guthrie were credited on the first assist, with Guthrie giving the puck to Carlisle on the second goal.

Kalamazoo scored its sole goal with seven seconds left to play in the first.

Joey Zelenka scored a goal for the Bucs in the second, and Hayden Modaff got it past the Eagles’ goalie in the third.

Brent Peterson, Nathan Schmidt, Jake Steggles and Pat Modaff each had an assist.

Grand Haven outshot Kalamazoo 26-15 on the evening.

Ryan Henning had 14 saves for the Bucs.
