Grand Haven native Annie Steinlage will have a chance to continue her soccer career at the professional level after she was selected in Friday’s National Women’s Soccer League draft.

The Western New York Flash, which had the top record in the league a year ago, picked Steinlage with the final pick in the third round — the 27th overall pick.

The nine-team draft consists of four rounds.

Steinlage, who played high school soccer at Spring Lake, recently wrapped up a fantastic collegiate career by helping the University of Virginia reach the College Cup. Virginia lost in the semifinals to UCLA in a shootout.

If she makes the Flash’s roster, Steinlage will have a chance to play with Abby Wambach, a star for the U.S. National team and one of the best women’s soccer players of all time.

Annie is the daughter of Bob and Lucy Steinlage of Grand Haven.
