Lakers’ girls score home win over Packers

Spring Lake plays at home for just 2nd time this winter

Playing at home for just the second time this year, Spring Lake’s varsity girls basketball team pulled away for a 44-23 win over Fremont.

The Lakers led 19-13 at the half, then outscored the Packers 25-10 after halftime.

Freshman point guard Reiko Johnson had another strong game for Spring Lake, finishing with 14 points while handling the ball against a the Packers’ pressure defense. She also had three assists and two steals.

Emily VanWingen and Olivia Grimmer teamed up to hold Fremont’s leading scorer, Marissa Spickerman, to 10 points below her average, and combined to score 14 points on the offensive end.

In the post, Remi French, Courtney Kyser and Kelsee Zuidema were dominant, combining for 18 points and 30 rebounds. French had 13 boards and three blocks, while Kyser grabbed nine rebounds and Zuidema had eight.
