The Fruitport boys basketball team defeated Reeths-Puffer at home on Tuesday, 67-57.
The Trojans edged out the Rockets in the first quarter, 14-12. Fruitport then outscored Reeths-Puffer 16-5 in the second, taking a 30-17 lead into halftime — which the Rockets were never able to recover from.
The Trojans outshot the Rockets 52 percent to 41, and won the battle of the boards, 36-28.
Luke Brown led Fruitport with 17 points. Travis Grimm put in a well-rounded effort with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Luke German added seven points, four rebounds, four assists and a block.
Meanwhile, in Holland, the Trojans’ girls gutted out a tough one against the host Dutch, 37-32.
Freshman Iyana Brown hit a buzzer-beater to put Fruitport up 19-17 at halftime.
The Trojans then held the Dutch to just three third-quarter points, taking a 30-20 lead heading into the fourth.
Holland came storming back, cutting Fruitport's lead down to one, but the Trojans knocked down a couple buckets late to capture the victory.
Brown led Fruitport with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Francesca Cerniglia added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Bre Burns chipped in with nine points of her own.
