The heavy snow that blanketed West Michigan on Wednesday resulted in the cancelation of several area sporting events.

Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Fruitport and Western Michigan Christian all canceled their scheduled events, with the exception of Grand Haven hockey. The Buccaneers’ contest against Grand Rapids Catholic Central at The Edge Ice Arena in Holland was played as scheduled.

The Bucs’ varsity wrestling meet at Rockford was postponed, as was Grand Haven’s bowling meet at home against Rockford and the competitive cheer event at Grandville.

Spring Lake was slated to host a Lakes Eight Conference wrestling jamboree, but that event will have to be made up at a later date.

Fruitport’s wrestling squad was scheduled to compete at Ludington, but that event was also called off.

Western Michigan Christian was scheduled to host Reeths-Puffer in girls basketball action, but that event was postponed, as was the Warriors’ cheer competition at Grant.

Today’s prep schedule features only two events at the varsity level. Grand Haven’s swimming and diving team will host Grandville at 6:30 p.m., while Spring Lake’s swimmers and divers are home against Muskegon Catholic Central at 6.
