Tri-Unity hands WMC 1st league loss

Western Michigan Christian’s boys basketball squad suffered its first River Valley loss of the season on Friday, a 47-46 setback to rival Tri-Unity Christian.

WMC’s Jacob Ray was fouled with 18 seconds left, and he made one free throw, giving his team a 46-45 advantage.

Tri-Unity Christian answered with a layup with just 3.4 seconds remaining to sneak out a one-point win.

Bernard Smith finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Warriors, leaving him eight points short of 1,000 for his career.

He’ll attempt to surpass that milestone next Friday at Grand River Prep.

Ray added 14 points for WMC, who fell behind 22-16 at the half. The Warriors closed the gap to three points, 33-30, going into the fourth.

Junior Varsity: WMC fell to Tri-Unity Christian, 61-47. Ben Mast and Ryan Butkis each scored 10 while Chris Hain added seven for the Warriors.
