Orioles win on Trojans’ home court

Visiting Ludington used a big second quarter to pull away from Fruitport in Lakes Eight girls basketball action on Friday.

The Trojans led 9-5 at the first stop, but the Orioles used a 17-5 second-quarter run to take control of the ballgame.

Only three players scored for Fruitport. Francesca Cerniglia led the way with 10 points, while Iyana Brown added eight and Bre Burns scored seven

Ludington was led by Kristen Reidenbach with 10 points and Brandi Thomas with eight.

The victory boosted Ludington to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in league play while Fruitport’s league title hopes took a serious hit as they fall to 9-5, 4-3 in Lakes Eight action.

TROJANS’ BOYS COME UP SHORT

Ludington jumped out to a 14-6 lead and coasted to a 44-25 victory over Fruitport in boys basketball action on Friday.

Zach Garber scored 12 points for the Trojans, and Travis Grimm had five. The rest of the team combined for just eight points.

Andrew Jones scored 10 for Ludington.
