Bucs double their win total for the season

Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team scored a pair of victories in the Michigan Public Schools Showcase in Chelsea this weekend.

The Buccaneers opened with a 6-3 win over Kingsford on Friday night, thanks to a hat trick from Joey Zelenka.

Jake Steggles added two goals and three assists, while Hayden Modaff scored a goal and assisted on two others.

Nathan Schmidt, Steven Dara and Pat Modaff also had assists for Grand Haven, which held a commanding 42-28 advantage in shots.

Ryan Henning made 25 saves to earn the win in goal.

On Saturday, Hayden Modaff scored twice in the third period as the Buccaneers topped Port Huron, 5-1.

Matt Nalley, Steggles and Joey Zelenka also scored goals for the Bucs, who are now 4-15 on the season.

Zelenka had three assists while Steggles and Hayden Modaff each assisted on a pair of goals. James Calkins and Schmidt also provided assists for Grand Haven.

Henning made 20 saves for the win as Grand Haven outshot Port Huron, 42-21.
