Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team couldn’t protect a third-period lead and suffered a 3-2 loss to East Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
The Buccaneers led 2-1 on goals by Jake Steggles and Joey Zelenka, with Zelenka’s goal coming early in the third period.
The Pioneers’ Noah Salsky scored to tie the game, then Jordan Stanford put home an unassisted goal for the game-winner with just 50 seconds remaining in the contest.
Matt Nalley had an assist for the Bucs, who fall to 4-16 overall and 0-9 in O-K Tier I play.
Ryan Henning made 19 saves on the night. The Bucs held a 26-22 advantage in shots.
