Four Spring Lake skiers qualified for the Division 2 state finals based on their performances at their regional meet at Cadillac on Tuesday.
In the girls’ races, Nora Reed placed first in the giant slalom and third in the slalom. Teammate Taylor Klein was seventh in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom.
As a team, the girls placed sixth.
The boys also placed sixth, despite a second-place finish in the giant slalom.
Bricker Reed placed second in the giant slalom and Collin Roberts was third in the slalom.
Tommy McKeough missed qualifying for the state meet despite an outstanding effort as he placed 11th in the slalom race.
The Division 2 state meet is at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs on Feb. 24.
LANDMAN ADVANCES FOR GH
For the Buccaneers, Hannah Landman qualified for the state finals in the giant slalom, while Hailey Watkins missed qualifying in the slalom by one spot.
Jack Leitner, Cody Gust and Jack Griffin all skied well for the Buccaneers, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the state meet.
Grand Haven’s regional was held at Marquette Mountain. The Division 1 state meet takes place at Schuss/Shanty Resort.
“We are excited to have Hannah represent Grand Haven,” coach Anna Braymer said. As a team, the Buccaneers’ girls squad of Landman, Watkins, Katie McKee, Katie Dewitt, Ali Gust and Brogan Modd placed fifth with 178.5 points. Traverse City Central edged out TC West to win the regional crown with 58 points.
The Bucs’ boys squad of Griffin, Leitner, Gust, Ethan Nass and Cody Peterson placed eighth overall with 286 points.
