It was a big weekend for local grapplers, as Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Fruitport all saw multiple wrestlers take top-four places at individual regional tournaments — securing state finals' spots in the process.

Grand Haven’s Dakota Juarez (160) captured a Divisional 1 regional title at Rockford, while Fruitport’s Chris Hendricks (285) captured a Division 2 crown at Spring Lake.

Juarez defeated Hartland’s duo of Lucas LaForge and Logan Vish, setting up a championship match against Grandville’s Sam Greco. Juarez dominated his O-K Red rival in a major decision victory, 14-5.

The senior will head to the Palace on Feb. 27 for the state individual finals, which go through March 1. Juarez will be joined by teammates Aaron Cummings (second, 152) and Chase VanHoef (third, heavyweight).

Connor Morley (189) Camden Bertucci (119) and Antonio Reyes (130) also wrestled for the Buccaneers on Saturday.

Hendricks had to go through a familiar opponent in his path to a regional championship — his teammate Kylan Sherman.
