Grand Haven’s varsity boys bowling team capped off a tremendous season by placing second at Friday’s Division 1 state finals, held at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights.

The Buccaneers were fifth after the qualifying round, which moved them into the quarterfinals. There they knocked off a familiar foe —Zeeland — by a score of 1,489-1,408.

Grand Haven moved on to the semifinals, where they edged out Howell, 1,399-1,371.

That set up a state championship showdown against Detroit U-D Jesuit, which scored a 1,409-1360 victory over Grand Haven.

Grand Haven freshman Jimmy Mitchell will bowl in today’s individual state finals.

Good job!
