Trojans’ season comes to disappointing close

Coopersville battles back to beat Fruitport in district opener

Fruitport’s varsity boys basketball team led for nearly the entire game against Coopersville in Monday’s Class B district tournament opener at Spring Lake.

But a late bucket by the Broncos put Coopersville on top when it meant the most — at the end.

The Broncos overcame a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and scored in the final 20 seconds to beat the Trojans on Monday, 44-43, ending Fruitport’s season.

The Trojans (7-14) had a chance to tie the game, but Shawn Knox’s shot just before the buzzer was partially blocked.
