Returning state qualifier Allie LeRoux won the pole vault and placed third in the long jump as Spring Lake’s girls track and field team kicked off its season with an outstanding showing at the Grand Valley State University indoor meet on Thursday.
LeRoux cleared 11 feet, 6 inches on the pole vault to take first place, six inches better than teammate Bella LeRoux. Her effort of 15-10 ½ was good for third in the long jump.
Allie LeRoux also ran the 60-meter dash for the Lakers, finishing 48th.
Carlyn Arteaga also had an outstanding meet for the Lakers as she won the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 17.89 seconds.
Grace Peterson took second in the high jump, clearing 5-0.
Lydia Suchecki was ninth in the same event at 4-10.
Other strong finishes for Spring Lake included Katie Wells placing 10th in the 400 run at 1:04.10. Erin O-Keefe was 15th in the 1,600 in 5:34.92; and the Lakers’ 1,200 relay team of Wells, Emma Mitchell, Arteaga and Emily Vasquez placed seventh in 3:04.87.
For the Fruitport Trojans, Ally German turned in the best finish as she placed ninth in the high jump at 4-10. Heidi Klingler placed 14th in the 200 dash in 28.78 seconds.
