Despite the miserable conditions, Spring Lake’s varsity boys golf team opened its season with a fantastic outing.

The Lakers defeated Muskegon Catholic Central, 178-208, in a match moved to Spring Lake Country Club due to damage to the Crusaders’ home course.

Ben Kramer shot a 3-over-par round of 40 for the Lakers, despite playing in 20-30 mph wind.

Bricker Reed added a 42, while Tanner Debien and Ryan Johnson added rounds of 46 and Connor Trebelman shot a 47.

“I was pleased,” said coach George Bitner. “I never expected a 174 in that weather.”

Bitner was excited to get a few more home matches. Monday’s event was supposted to be held at Muskegon Country Club, but had to be moved to SLCC because of damage suffered in this weekend’s storms.

In addition, Mona Shores had to move one of its home invitationals to SLCC because of a scheduling conflict.

The Lakers will complete in the Tri-County Jamboree on Wednesday.
