Bucs' baseball goes 2-0 at home tourney

Grand Haven's varsity baseball team scored a come-from-behind win over Spring Lake in its opening game of the Big Buc Invitational on Saturday, finishing 2-0 on the day.

Against the Lakers, the two teams were tied 5-5 going into the seventh inning. Spring Lake scored twice in the seventh, only to see Grand Haven storm back with three runs to score the dramatic victory.

Leadoff batter Elliott Martin had a big game for the Bucs with two hits and three RBIs. Nate Bonter added four hits and a run scored, while Connor Grimes drove in a pair of runs.

Jared Kelly, Aaron Shumaker and Levi Overway each added two hits. Shumaker scored three times, while Overway scored a run and drove in a pair.

For the Lakers, Kyle Houts had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Kyle Zietlow added a hit, scored a run and drove in a pair, while Mark Williamson and Jorge Lozano each added two hits and Kyle Peets scored twice.

Kelly earned the win for the Bucs, pitching the final three innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Grimes got the start, going the first five innings. He gave up five runs, one earned, while walking three and striking out three.

Peets started for the Lakers, allowing eight hits and four runs. Houts suffered the loss, giving up four runs on six hits.
