Fruitport just misses sweep against WMC

Spring Lake’s varsity girls tennis team saw its chances at a Lakes Eight Conference championship suffer a hit when the Lakers fell to Ludington on Monday, 5-3.

The Orioles swept the four singles matches.

In doubles play, the Lakers took three of four, including a 6-3, 6-3 victory by Faith Lee and Jori Henderson at No. 1.

The Lakers’ No. 3 doubles team of Gretta Nyboer and Francie Bailey won 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles, while Suchleen Singh and Allison Dinneweth won 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4.

FRUITPORT DEFEATS WMC

The Trojans went on the road to WMC on Monday, defeating the Warriors, 7-1.

WMC’s lone win came at No. 2 singles, as Ashly Schuitema defeated Anna LeBeouf, 6-4, 6-3.

Alissa Selle came out on top against Lexi Byers at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2), Rebekah Busscher took out Katie Wallinga at No. 3 (1-6, 7-5, 6-3), and Kaitlyn LaBash didn’t lose a game against Jeanna Mead (6-0, 6-0).

Fruitport swept the doubles’ flights. Winning pairings were Meghan Newmyer & Ashleigh Visscher (No. 1), Mackenzie Portenga & Lauren Doctor (No. 2), Donnalee Gilbert & Leghann Newmyer (No. 3), and Allyson Breese & Maggie Burgess (No. 4).
