Grand Haven’s varsity golf team shot a season-best 158 on Wednesday to seal a pair of O-K Red victories.

The Buccaneers beat West Ottawa (164) and Hudsonville (184).

Reid Murphy shot a 37 and Tyler VandenBrand carded a 39. Alex Crandle shot a 40 and Matt Nalley a 42 for the Bucs.

“Alex Crandle made his varsity debut today and posted a solid score to enhance our team depth,” said coach Randy White. “I was excited for our team to break the 160 mark this week. Our hope is to get our 18-hole score below the 320 mark before postseason tournament play.

“(Today) will be a good test as we take on the O-K Red in our midseason tournament.”

Multiple Trojans have best game of season

The Fruitport golf team had its best performance of the season at the Muskegon City tournament at Stonegate Golf Club in Twin Lake on Wednesday.

The Trojans shot a 199 on the front nine and a 188 on the back. Fruitport’s 387 placed the Trojans in eight place behind champion Mona Shores.

Western Michigan Christian was ninth with a 394.

Austin Buckingham (81), Mitch McNitt (101), Noah Newmeyer (102) and Nick Giltrop (103) all had individual bests for the season.
