Haven softball sweeps Trojans

Bucs take both ends of doubleheader, 6-5 and 6-1

Grand Haven took both games of a home doubleheader against Fruitport on Wednesday, 6-5, 6-1.

Grand Haven’s Morgan Hill flew out to deep center field in the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 1, scoring Kylie Masko for the go-ahead run.

Kaylee Hartwell pitched the final two innings in relief, shutting down the Trojans and securing a victory for the Bucs. Masko picked up the win, with Hartwell garnering the save.

Mikayla Gronback went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Masko added three hits.
For the Trojans, Kelsey Alviar and Andrea Benson each hit a double and a single.

The Buccaneers won more decisively in Game 2, displaying strong pitching and defense in the 5-1 win.

Jordan Buckingham went 2-for-2 with a double, while Maddie Barshaw hit a fourth-inning double, scoring Audrey Boersen and Morgan Hill.

Masko got the win from the pitching circle.
For the Trojans, Alviar stroked a double to lead off the game, before scoring on a single off the bat of Delaney Bennett. 

Junior Varsity: Grand Haven defeated Fruitport, 16-1 and 17-2. Ashley Schneider picked up two four-inning mercy wins for the Bucs. Gabby Nowak led the way offensively for Grand Haven in a well-balanced offensive effort, hitting a double and a grand slam. Larisa Garza chipped in with two doubles.
