The Trojans dispatched rival Spring Lake, 116-12, and Orchard View, 92-36.
The wins came despite running a skeleton crew, as Fruitport had its eyes on later dates. Fruitport heads to Ludington today for its last regular-season conference meet, then hosts the Lakes Eight Conference meet on Friday. A win in either would guarantee the Trojans at least half of the Lakes Eight crown, and a win in both would give them an outright title.
“We’re just trying to survive until tomorrow,” said Fruitport coach Chad Brandow after Monday’s meet. “Today was just get through, and tomorrow is a big meet for us. We didn’t run hardly any of our guys today — we relaxed.
“We’ve got a pretty good team. We’ve got hopefully the conference champions. We’ll see. We just need to put it together two more days, tomorrow and Friday. We have a lot of good kids on this team. I’m hopeful that they can do it tomorrow, and then we can take it to Friday and see what happens.”
The Trojans dominated the field events, winning all but one.
