Library hosts barbershop singers

The Muskegon Chapter of the Society for The Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singers in America performed at Loutit District Library on Sunday. The group consists of 30 men, ranging in age from 21 to 95.

SL students win 7 medals, 3 trophies at state chess tourney

Chess players from Spring Lake schools brought home three trophies and seven medals from the State Team Chess Championships at Michigan State University on Saturday. The Jeffers Elementary School Lakers team of John Mark VanDuinen, Caden Ercole, Ben Bouwhuis and Ryan Ross earned a trophy for their third-place tie in the grades K-5 section. Bouwhuis won four of his five games to win a silver medal.
