Tyler Sutton is just a year older than the Coast Guard Festival's annual downtown car show, but the Grand Haven teen was dreaming of seeing a car more than twice his age on Sunday. Sutton, 18 - wearing a wool cap and black T-shirt - said he's attended the festival's car show for many years. He doesn't yet have his own car. "Wish I had the money for it and I'd have one,' Sutton said as he checked out a 1967 Chevy Impala SS. "If I had my choice out of this, probably a ‘69 Chevelle.'

Hundreds of kids, mascots, dogs, horses and pirates moved along Franklin and Washington avenues to the beat of drums and the wail of sirens on Saturday. Thousands of spectators watched as 51 parade entries walked, drove, biked and boarded through the 10-block route of the Coast Guard Kids Parade.

Senior citizens have joined the ranks of those being honored during Grand Haven's Coast Guard Festival. Festival organizers and leaders of the North Ottawa County Council on Aging have combined resources and dedicated next Wednesday as "Senior Day' for the 2011 festival. Events will include a pickleball tournament, line dancing, a Living Well Expo, live performances and bingo.

Rain held off for those attending the annual Coast Guard Picnic at Coast Guard Park in Ferrysburg on Saturday, an event celebrating the 221 years of service provided by the U.S. Coast Guard. The event featured games for adults and children, a beer tent, food and music by local musicians, and a special honor for those who currently lead the city of Ferrysburg from the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival Committee.

The U.S. Coast Guard opened its seasonal air facility in Muskegon on Friday. The seasonal air facility, located at the Muskegon County Airport, operates annually from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. It provides increased search-and-rescue capabilities and faster response times throughout the Lake Michigan area, according to the Coast Guard, with two crews and a MH-65C rescue helicopter from Air Station Detroit.
