Coming off an emotional win over East Kentwood on Tuesday, Grand Haven’s varsity girls basketball team quickly put any worries about a letdown to rest on Friday night.
The Buccaneers raced to a quick 16-3 lead and never looked back, burying the visiting Muskegon Big Reds, 69-44.
“What would our Kentwood game have meant if we lost tonight?” said Grand Haven coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer, whose team improves to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in O-K Red play. “Our kids are playing great. They were really unselfish, and we’re moving the ball, using our size advantage.
Senior guard Alex Law poured in a game-high 15 points. She was deadly from the field as she knocked down 6-of-7 shots from the floor, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Eight of Law’s points came during a second-quarter run that saw Grand Haven claim a 35-16 halftime lead.
Every Buccaneer scored except for one — senior point guard Shar’Rae Davis, the team’s second-lead scorer on the season. She’s been dealing with a nagging foot injury and her playing time was limited since the Bucs enjoyed a comfortable lead throughout the game. Davis still managed to dish out five assists.
