Girl, 12, hit by car

A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Holland Township on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened at 7:20 a.m. on Riley Street near 136th Avenue. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said Justice Alberta crossed the street behind a vehicle, waiting to turn left. Another driver traveling in the opposite direction said the girl ran out from behind the vehicle and into her path. The driver said she could not stop in time.

Alberta is at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids with a head injury.

Police said the driver involved in the accident was not hurt.
