Authorities said a police officer fatally shot a man in his 30s who brandished a handgun and rifle outside a house early today.

WWMT-TV and the Kalamazoo Gazette reported the man was shot around 3 a.m. in Lawton, about 55 miles south of Grand Rapids.

Authorities said the shooting happened after a Lawton police officer tried to stop a vehicle that had sparks coming from underneath. Police said the vehicle stopped in a driveway and the man got out.

Police said the officer wasn’t injured and three passengers in the vehicle weren’t hurt.

Names of those involved weren’t immediately released. Police said the man who was killed was wanted in Kalamazoo County for failing to appear in court on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
