Panel discussion on emerging drug trends Feb. 23

The Ottawa County Health Department and Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will be hosting an “Emerging Drug Trends/Panel Discussion” presentation for parents and caregivers on Thursday, Feb. 23.

It will take place at the Grand Haven 9 Movie Theatre, 17110 Hayes St. in Grand Haven Township, from 6:30-8 p.m.

The event will discuss current youth trends regarding k2/spice/synthetic marijuana, bath salts and prescription medications; offer tips on how to talk to your kids about drugs; and treatment resources. It will also feature a panel discussion with Cindy Speilmaker of the 20th Circuit Court; Karen Miedema, assistant Ottawa County prosecutor; Detective Corey Allard of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department; Sgt. Glenn Bo of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety; Deputy Sara Fillman of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department; and Stephanie VanDerKooi of the Ottawa County Health Department.

The event is free. Registration is not required.
