The number of entries may have been down for Saturday’s Winterfest events at Mulligan’s Hollow, but the good times and even the snow were plentiful.

“Fifteen years we’ve been running this and it’s been a blast every year — and that’s why we keep coming back,” said Duane Schroeder of Grand Haven, who was part of a group dressed as “ice cream men” in a cardboard ice cream truck.

Schroeder was joined by Bob Franklin and Dan France; and their “engineer,” Dan Hysell — all of Grand Haven — for the ice cream truck entry, complete with distorted “ice cream man” music.

Kevin Tuuk of The City Farmer, the longtime sponsor of the Family Dog Pull at Mulligan’s Hollow, said 28 dogs were entered in Saturday’s races. That’s down from last year’s 36 entries.

Melissa Heyer, an agent for Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt in Grand Haven — sponsor of the Cardboard Sled Race at the Ski Bowl — also said that event’s 110 entries was down from past years.

Winterfest concludes Sunday with the Polar Plunge at Chinook Pier from 1-3 p.m. and the Snow Angel Contest at Grand Haven's Central Park at 3 p.m. Registration for the Snow Angel Contest begins at 2:30 p.m.

The events’ winning entries and more coverage of the 2012 Winterfest will be published in Monday’s Grand Haven Tribune and e-edition of the Tribune.
