Spring Lake and Grand Haven high schools soared with stellar scores in national and state rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report. Spring Lake ranked in the top 2 percent in the nation in the magazine's "America's Best High Schools." The Lakers also landed slightly above the top 1 percent statewide.

As Grand Haven and Spring Lake public school districts shift to all-day kindergarten beginning this fall, there are avenues for parents looking for an alternative. St. John's Lutheran School, Grand Haven Christian School and Lakeshore Christian Academy in Grand Haven Township have seen an increased number of inquiries about their various program alternatives to full-day kindergarten.
