Parents seemed overall supportive Tuesday night at the first of two community forums focusing on all-day, every-day kindergarten in Spring Lake schools. A second hour-long presentation and question-and-answer session is scheduled for 7 tonight at the Spring Lake Middle School auditorium, 345 Hammond St.

The Grand Haven school board is seeking candidates to fill a seat that has been vacated by Grand Haven Township resident Jennifer Williams. Williams, who has been a member of the board for nearly two years, recently submitted her resignation letter to the school board, stating her husband's job relocation to Boston as the reason.

St. Mary's Parish School will host an open house for its preschool and a kindergarten enrollment meeting on March 1. In addition, the school will host a visitation to its kindergarten class on March 8.

Because of changes in state funding, the Spring Lake district is following the trend of school districts statewide and transitioning to full-time kindergarten. A subcommittee will present a recommendation to the Spring Lake Public Schools Board of Education at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Jeffers Elementary School, affirming the change.
