Fruitport restructuring plan shot down

A restructuring plan for Fruitport Community Schools' elementary program was shot down by the district's school board Monday night. "I think they did the right thing,' said Fruitport parent Kristina Hedges. "They listened to the community and did the right thing.'

Parents seemed overall supportive Tuesday night at the first of two community forums focusing on all-day, every-day kindergarten in Spring Lake schools. A second hour-long presentation and question-and-answer session is scheduled for 7 tonight at the Spring Lake Middle School auditorium, 345 Hammond St.

GH girl nationally recognized for volunteer efforts

Thirteen-year-old Shayna Wierenga has a tenacious spirit for serving her community. The White Pines Middle School eighth-grader devotes several hours a week visiting with elders at Sanctuary at the Shore adult care facility, as well as voluntarily teaching gymnastics and cheerleading.

The Grand Haven school board is seeking candidates to fill a seat that has been vacated by Grand Haven Township resident Jennifer Williams. Williams, who has been a member of the board for nearly two years, recently submitted her resignation letter to the school board, stating her husband's job relocation to Boston as the reason.

St. Mary’s to hold preschool, kindergarten events

St. Mary's Parish School will host an open house for its preschool and a kindergarten enrollment meeting on March 1. In addition, the school will host a visitation to its kindergarten class on March 8.
