Anti-bullying speaker tells students to ‘take a stand’

Verbal remarks might not be seen as physical weapons, but the pain they can inflict could hurt just as much as if it were from a real weapon, according to an anti-bullying speaker who met with Grand Haven students on Friday.

SL schools poised for full-day kindergarten

Because of changes in state funding, the Spring Lake district is following the trend of school districts statewide and transitioning to full-time kindergarten. A subcommittee will present a recommendation to the Spring Lake Public Schools Board of Education at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Jeffers Elementary School, affirming the change.

John Mauro said his passion for math adds up to more than just a teaching degree. Mauro graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2000, with a secondary education certificate in math and physics. He earned a master's degree in educational technology in 2008.
