Phil of Grand Haven Township asked, "In the run-up to the conversion of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg police into sheriff's deputies, it seemed to become accepted wisdom that Spring Lake thereby saves $300,000 a year — reportedly with no cuts in personnel, pay or benefits. So where does the savings come from? Or has a different group of taxpayers (i.e., the entire county) absorbed some of the expense?"
