State Rep. Amanda Price said she has posted a perfect voting record for the first half of the 2011 legislative session. The nonpartisan website www.michiganvotes.org tracks Michigan lawmaker votes in both the House and the Senate. Price has not missed any of the 300 roll call votes taken in the House so far this year.

A second write-in candidate has joined the race to become Grand Haven's next mayor, facing candidate Geri McCaleb and write-in candidate Ken Sharkey. Chris Collett, a U.S. Army veteran from the war in Iraq, annouced his intentions today to run as a write-in candidate for the position. According to Collett, he is running as "an energetic and committed candidate, who is intent upon the revival of a great American city with amazing resources and people to offer to the country.'

Plans are being developed to revitalize the icons on the south pier of the Grand River channel - the aging lighthouse and foghouse structures that draw residents and visitors alike. "The city is in the process of approving a quit-claim deed from the federal government,' said Dave Karpin, head of the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy. Once this occurs, Karpin said the city will own the lighthouses, but the conservancy group will maintain and operate them for the city.

After celebrating 100 years of history, St. Anthony's Catholic Church steps into its final one. The process to merge the Robinson Township church with St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Grand Haven officially began this month, starting with the discontinuation of Tuesday afternoon services at St. Anthony's. Barbara Teasley, who has been a member of St. Anthony's for 51 years, attended the final Tuesday Mass in June.

Calling it a "nutty' decision, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said he'll meet today's deadline to ask an entire appeals court to overturn a ruling that struck down the state's ban on affirmative action in college admissions and government hiring. Schuette, a Republican elected in 2010, said "merit, talent and ability' should determine who gets into college or gets a public job.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department is looking for assistance in identifying the suspect in at least two-dozen thefts from vehicles in the Georgetown Township area. Lt. Mark Bennett of the Sheriff's Department said they are investigating about 25 incidents of larceny from vehicles over the past few weeks. He said most of the cars broken into were in driveways or on the side of roads, and were not secured. Electronics, cash and wallets were taken from the vehicles, totaling several thousands of dollars in lost property.

UPDATE (Friday 7 a.m.): CANCELED A flash flood watch remains in effect through Friday afternoon for much of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, including Ottawa County. A flash flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding, the National Weather Service says, and residents of the watch area should be prepared to take action should heavy rain occur in their area or if flash flood warnings are issued.

About 500 people attended Monday's event - which included tours of the remodeled hotel rooms, lobby, indoor pool, fitness and business center. The Crockery Township Fire Department will be one of four staging areas across the Michigan's Lower Peninsula today as part of a statewide emergency readiness test. Firefighters and paramedics from several departments in Ottawa and Muskegon counties are expected to respond to the department, 16875 Main St. (112th Avenue) in Nunica, after being called at about 2:20 this afternoon, said Crockery Township Fire Chief Gary Dreyer, who is coordinating the local staging site.

Festival organizers and leaders of the North Ottawa County Council on Aging have combined resources and dedicated next Wednesday as "Senior Day' for the 2011 festival. Events will include a pickleball tournament, line dancing, a Living Well Expo, live performances and bingo.

The Lakeshore area was drenched by rain and thunderstorms Wednesday night and early today - causing localized flooding, some downed branches and spotty power outages. "Officially, up until midnight, it was 1.87 inches' in Grand Haven, WZZM-TV meteorologist Joe Kopecek said. Kopecek said more rain fell after midnight that would have increased this total, but he didn't have any official figures for it as of this morning.
