Area emergency crews responded to several medical calls over the weekend at local beaches, a marina and the Grand Haven boardwalk. At 3:39 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Grand Haven State Park about a 60-year-old female who was conscious but not alert. Lt. Joe Boyle of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety said the woman was attending a bachelorette party at the beach and started to feel faint. She had not been drinking, Boyle said. The woman was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital. No further information was available this morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren counties until 11:15 a.m. NWS meteorologists were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing hurricane-force wind gusts in excess of 75 mph. These storms were located over Lake Michigan at around 9:45 a.m. and moving east at 70 mph.

Possibly a dozen homes were without power in a Spring Lake Village neighborhood off Lake Avenue after a storm went through just after 8 this morning, said Lt. Steve Bruneau of the Spring Lake Township Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 8:16 a.m. to a home at 320 Mark St. on a possible lightning strike and the smell of electrical burning in the house. Bruneau said the residents did not hear any loud crack from lightning and there was no damage to the house itself.

Native American children created their own games using items from nature - rocks, sticks, strips of leather. One of their games has become quite popular - LaCrosse. At the Tri-Cities Historical Museum's "Our Woodland Ways' program on Wednesday, July 20, children will have a chance to play two different Native American games: kainsish and throw sticks. In an attempt to keep up with their moms, dads, aunts, uncles and other prominent role models, more and more youngsters are becoming involved in endurance events. That fact was clear on Saturday as 68 kids ages 6-16 took part in the Grand Haven Kids' Triathlon, which is held as a precursor to Sunday's Grand Haven Triathlon and Duathlon. "My mom started doing them and I just followed in her footsteps,' said 13-year-old Cole Kramer of Grand Haven.

A steady stream of children passed Sue Lavin's game at the 2011 St. Mary's Festival on Saturday afternoon - many of them stopping to try their hand at "PeeWee Pinball.' The game, she said, worked by having children launch a marble through a field of pins and bumpers, landing in a colored slot. The color determined the number of prize chips they won, which could be exchanged for toys at the prize booth.
