Todd and Diane Losee have plenty of experience putting on running events through their company, Inspirational Racing. The Spring Lake couple already organize the Coast Guard Park Trail Run and the Octoberfest marathon and half marathon. Add the Heritage Festival 5K run and walk to that list. The run takes place Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. on North Fruitport Road, next to Central Park in Spring Lake.

Grand Haven varsity baseball coach Morey Wagenmaker revealed to his team after Saturday's regional tournament loss that he was stepping down as coach. "I wanted them the first to know,' he said. "I feel the decision comes at a right time. It's the best for myself and my family.' Wagenmaker has guided the Bucs' varsity program for the past four seasons. Prior to that, he was the JV coach for six years. A personal highlight during his tenure, he said, was an opportunity to coach his son, Heath, for two seasons on varsity.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, one of the Coast Guard's largest field commands, will have a new commander on Tuesday. Capt. Luann Barndt, who took command in June 2009 and is the first woman to hold the position, will transfer the duties and responsibilities of sector commander to Capt. Matthew Sibley. Following the 11 a.m. change-of-command ceremony, Barndt will retire after 27 years of Coast Guard service.

The American Red Cross is looking for blood donors to help ensure blood is available when and where it's needed. The Red Cross is in special need of O negative-type blood - the universal blood type that can help all individuals needing transfusions. In an effort to help increase donor turnout, the Red Cross has partnered with Meijer to offer donors a chance to win gift cards from Meijer and Best Buy. An autopsy has found that a young woman who disappeared from Big Rapids last year was killed by a blow to the head. WWTV-WWUP reported remains found April 18 in Mecosta County's Austin Township, near Big Rapids, were determined to be those of Kristin Spires. Earlier this year, four people were charged in an investigation related to Spires' disappearance. They're not charged with harming the Barryton woman; rather, they are charged with being accessories after the fact, a felony.
