Due to a pair of lightning strikes near the Spring Lake Aquatic Center, the Spring Lake swimming and diving team's meet against Forest Hills Central was delayed for 45 minutes before the starting pistol got the first event underway.

For the fourth year in a row, the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg hosted a career exploration event called Boomerang in an effort to connect local business professionals with area high school students.

With only three returning starters on the defensive side of the ball for the Grand Haven Buccaneers varsity football team this season, the consensus among outsiders of the program in early August was that expectations should be downplayed and a rebuilding season could be in store. More than two months later, senior Norris Ellis and the rest of his teammates sat in the upper level of Kirby Grill in downtown Grand Haven, and what flashed on the television screen on Sunday was proof that they had far exceeded those early expectations.

Work is in progress on a $2.1 million bridge over North Cedar Street. This is just one segment of Michigan Highway 231, which will eventually stretch over the Grand River and add a long-awaited north-south connection designed to alleviate heavy traffic on U.S. 31 in Ottawa County.

Former City Councilwoman Geri McCaleb and write-in candidate Ken Sharkey took part in the forum sponsored by the local League of Women Voters and Chamber of Commerce, and the Grand Haven Tribune.
