Grand Haven's varsity boys soccer team earned a spot in Saturday's Division 1 district championship game by defeating Grand Rapids Union in Thursday's semifinal round, 3-0. The Buccaneers, currently No. 5 in the latest Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association's Division 1 rankings, improved to 16-1-3 on the season. Spring Lake's swimming and diving squad completed a strong season in Coastal Conference meets with a 112-71 victory over Muskegon Catholic Central on Thursday at the Spring Lake Aquatic Center. "We really went into this final conference meet with a focus: win,' said head coach Nikki Theune. "We knew, with a win, that the conference championship would be within reach. The dedication of the Fallen Heroes Memorial has been moved to Dec. 7 - Pearl Harbor Day. Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kenneth Kelly, co-chairman of the fundraising effort to place the memorial at Grand Haven's Central Park, said the committee felt it more appropriate to have the ceremony on Pearl Harbor Day.

Thursday evening was the first time all season that Katy Walters' varsity volleyball squad at Grand Haven has been completely healthy. How bad has the sickness and injury bug been for Grand Haven? Volleyball is by no means a contact sport, but the Bucs have had three players suffer concussions this season.
