The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a wind advisory for West Michigan, including Ottawa County, in effect from 2 p.m. today to 8 p.m. Thursday. North winds will increase today, occasionally gusting to 45 mph by this afternoon. The strong winds are expected to continue to increase tonight into Thursday, with gusts as high as 55 mph possible. Tree limbs may be downed due to the strong winds. Scattered power outages could also occur.

After months of meetings with members of the community and city officials, the Grand Haven Downtown Development Authority's Principal Shopping District is in full effect. On Monday night, Grand Haven City Council voted 4-1 to implement a special assessment roll that rounds out the PSD process. Councilman Mike Fritz voted against the assessment.

Spring Lake's varsity girls cross country team earned a share of the Lakes Eight Conference championship by placing second at Tuesday's Fremont jamboree. The host Packers won Tuesday's event with 31 points, followed by the Lakers with 35. Ludington was a distant third with 77 points. Fruitport placed sixth with 170.
