The fall season of the Tuesday Musicale Club will begin with a free program at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 13, at the Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus Ave. The club will continue to celebrate its 100th anniversary with concerts and music scholarships for area students. To support the scholarship program, yearly dues are $40 for monthly concerts through May 2012. President Adele Zelenka will open the Sept. 13 program and introduce Mayor Roger Bergman, who will give Tuesday Musicale a special proclamation. Former presidents will also be honored.

Three people were taken by ambulance to the hospital after a rear-end accident at a Robinson Township intersection about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. A car with a woman and two young children inside was slowing to make a turn onto southbound 120th Avenue from M-45 when it was hit in the rear by a car driven by a young female, said Robinson Township Fire Chief Paul VanVelzen. The young woman said she was looking at an ambulance broken down on the side of the road, and didn't notice the other car slowing in front of her, VanVelzen said.

Loutit District Library has been chosen to host the Prime Time Family Reading Time program next year. The six-week Michigan Humanities Council-sponsored literacy program is directed toward families with young children who are non-active library users. It includes the reading of a child's story and facilitated discussion on themes presented in that night's book. Loutit Library Director John Martin said the first Prime Time session will start in March 2012 and conclude around mid-April, incorporating National Reading Month and National Library Week.

A Coopersville-area man died late Wednesday afternoon after falling from a ladder, said Sgt. Keith Garvelink of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. James Aaron Blehm, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, Garvelink said. Emergency personnel were called to the 9000 block of Leonard Road at 5:15 p.m. Garvelink said Blehm was trimming trees on his property from a ladder. A falling limb struck the ladder and caused the man to fall to the ground, a distance of greater than 20 feet, Garvelink said.

A symbol marking the entrance to Grand Haven and welcoming people to Coast Guard City USA has been permanently moved to a Muskegon museum. A city Department of Public Works crew - with the help of Barrett Boat Works staff and an Ottawa County Jail work crew - moved the boat Wednesday morning from the Seventh Street traffic island, just south of Beacon Boulevard, to the Great Lakes Naval Memorial & Museum. Nancy Wezeman said the old boat is something that is always noticed when she and others arrive in Grand Haven.

Senior Olympic gold medalist Jimmy O'Hearn will facilitate his "Balance Your Life' senior fitness program at Loutit District Library. Classes will begin Sept. 12 and continue every Monday through March 2012 from 10-11 a.m. in Program Room A of the library, 407 Columbus Ave. O'Hearn said men and women with back ache, shoulder, hip and knee problems regularly attend his classes to attain functional balance, mental alertness and increased energy.

Many would consider Scott Staal's junior season a wasted year. Staal missed the season with a broken elbow - sustained while throwing the football during two-a-days - an injury that kept him off the field the entire year. Staal, on the other hand, looks at his painful junior year as a blessing in disguise.
