The ninth annual Le Style de Vie, a wine-and-design event, will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 on Eighth Street in downtown Holland. Dana Bonney has been running a charter fishing service out of Grand Haven since 1984 and has been a captain since 1987, but he's never had to handle a situation like he did last week. "This is the first time I've ever had to pull somebody out of the water,' he said. Bonney, his brother Rob and their customers were heading back into the Grand Haven channel on their charter fishing boat, the Danel, late Saturday afternoon. They were coming in earlier than usual because some rough weather hit before it was expected.

Former NBA player and Michigan State University star Jay Vincent is asking a judge to keep him out of prison so he can repay victims of a fraud scheme. The 52-year-old Vincent was scheduled to be sentenced today in federal court in Grand Rapids. He pleaded guilty to fraud and tax charges. The government said Vincent and an associate defrauded 20,000 people out of more than $1 million by charging them to become certified home inspectors.

Musicians from all over West Michigan gathered for a dulcimer jam Tuesday night at the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds. This was the eighth year for the event, said Muskegon resident Ruthann Sterenberg - who attended the event with her husband, Edward, who is the dulcimer player in their family. "It's really been growing,' Sterenberg said. Some of the same players were planning to attend a hymn sing at the same location on Wednesday night. They were going to play old-fashioned gospel songs, Sterenberg said.

The second week of high school football begins tonight. Tonight's games include Grand Haven hosting Traverse City West, Spring Lake at Ludington and Fruitport hosting Newaygo. The latter two games are Lakes Eight Conference openers for all four teams. WGHN (92.1 FM) is broadcasting the Grand Haven game, starting at 7 p.m. Check back here to get the scores.

On a night that it payed tribute to former defensive coach Larry Rueger prior to Thursday's Lakes Eight Conference opener against Newaygo, Fruitport's defense would have made its old coach proud. The Trojans' rugged 'D' made a big statement with the game on the line, coming up with a key interception in the end zone that locked up Fruitport's 30-10 win over visiting Newaygo.

"Neighbors: Photography by David and Kathy Myers' is on exhibit at the Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 W. Webster Ave., through Nov. 6. The Myerses traveled to 27 cities, villages and townships in the Muskegon County to capture the telling images in the exhibition. The photographs link the similarities between residents, while managing to also emphasize their individualities.

The e-merge Entrepreneur Network and the Muskegon Chapter of S.C.O.R.E. business counselors are co-hosting a business mentoring workshop from 8-10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. It will be held at the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, 380 W. Western Ave., Suite 202. The workshop is specifically designed for people who are either currently mentoring a West Michigan business or considering becoming a business mentor. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment has issued an action day for elevated levels of ozone for today for Ottawa, Muskegon, Kent, Allegan, Mason, Oceana and Van Buren counties. The air quality alert means pollutants are expected to be in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups' range. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation. These activities include refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gasoline-powered lawn equipment, and using charcoal lighter fluid.

General Motors, Chrysler and Nissan reported surprisingly strong sales in August, as buyers went for fuel-efficient vehicles and Jeeps. Industry analysts had expected a weaker month because of consumers' anxiety about the economy and bad weather on the East Coast. GM's sales rose 18 percent, Chrysler's climbed 31 percent, and Nissan's were up 19 percent.

Great weather contributed to a great turnout and the ability to raise $1,600 in the fifth annual Smith's Bayou Chili Cookoff on Saturday, according to organizers. A check was presented Tuesday by the event's co-chairpersons, Rebecca Hopp and JoAnn Grotemat, to officials at The People Center in Spring Lake. People Center Director Karen Reenders said the timing couldn't be any better - "especially when you're getting to the end of the year and the money is running out from the Christmas giving,' she said.
