The Grand Haven chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance has been offering support to people who struggle with these mood disorders since 2002. The chapter, also known as Odyssey, recently kicked off a new Family and Friends group. Family and Friends offers face-to-face support and education for the friends and family members, and any support people who love or care about a person living with depression or bipolar disorder.

Two popular Coast Guard Festival events scheduled for tonight - the Grand City Skiers and the downtown Street Dance - have been postponed until Wednesday evening because of the stormy weather forecast, said Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Mike Smith. "The predictions are terrible,' he said this morning. "It's predicted to be 70-percent precipitation the entire evening.'

The Spectrum Health System is participating in a clinical trial to evaluate a transcatheter alternative to open-heart surgery for patients with severe aortic stenosis. The Medtronic CoreValve U.S. Clinical Trial is under way at the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. The center is among about 40 hospitals across the country that will participate in this five-year trial.

Coast Guard Festival officials announced this morning the cancellation of tonight's Youth Ambassador Program and Wednesday night's performance of the Ransom Street Band at Waterfront Stadium.

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga on Monday night voted in support of the debt and spending deal worked out over the weekend. Huizenga, who represents Michigan's 2nd Congressional District, which includes Ottawa County, said the consequences without finding a solution were too high. The Zeeland Republican said the House-passed legislation is a step toward reducing spending and restores "fiscal discipline to our country' without raising taxes.

A 50-year-old Holton man, arrested following the armed robbery of a Ferrysburg convenience store on Saturday, demanded preliminary examination when he was arraigned by video late Monday afternoon in Ottawa County's 58th District Court. Bond was set at $250,000 for John Lee DeJong, after he was charged with armed robbery and fleeing a police officer. Joe Legatz will serve as DeJong's court-appointed attorney. A charge of operating under the influence of drugs is still pending the return of a blood test, Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Chief Roger DeYoung said.
